Kerry Boykins

My name is Colleen Boykins. I am submitting this photo of my husband, Kerry, and my 8-year-old son, Caleb. Caleb runs for the Mount Pleasant Track Club.
As the 2012 Jr. Olympic 1500m South Carolina Champion, Caleb is a successful distance runner due largely to the commitment and support of his father, Kerry.

In addition to providing encouragement, he runs long distance runs with Caleb during the off season. Kerry had never been a distance runner, but developed the stamina to run long distances to support Caleb. Kerry also actively participates in assisting the coaches at track practices. One of Kerry's roles at track practice is "the rabbit" who the athletes have to catch during drills, pushing athletes to run faster. Even at the age of 53, Kerry can outrun many of the teens on the team during sprint drills! This photo is of Kerry, as the rabbit, and Caleb at the end of a practice.

Thank you,
Colleen Boykins

Michael Manders
My name is Natalie Manders, and I would like to honor my father by submitting this photo of us together after I took 4th place in the discus at the MN State AA High School Track & Field Championships. I’m currently in 9th grade, and I’ve been one of the top throwers in the nation for my age for the past two years in both shot-put and discus. I strongly feel that my accomplishments are due to great parenting and great coaching; my father is also my coach at the high school I compete for, and for USATF and AAU.

His name is Michael Manders, and he’s held the NCAA Div. III national record in the shot-put for over 30 years, and it still stands today. He also held the NCAA Div. III national record in the discus for over 25 years. He was a 19 time Track & Field All-American (NCAA Div. I, NCAA Div. III, NAIA), a 10 time national champion in shot-put & discus (NCAA Div. III, NAIA), and a 6 time national record holder in shot-put & discus (NCAA Div. III).

I’m submitting this photo for both categories; Athlete & Father and Athlete & Coach. It’s impossible for me to separate the two. Thank you for your consideration.
